Papers (1924-1964) of Francis Ralph Preveden (1890-1959) relate mainly to the publication of his History of the Croatian People and to disputes with the Croatian Fraternal Union over its publication. Included are dictaphone records and transcriptions, photographs, and correspondence between author and publisher. Also included in this collection is correspondence received by Stanley Boric, former editor of the Nasa Nada, pertaining to the posthumous publication of Preveden's History of the Croatian People, Vol. 2.

Francis Ralph Preveden (1890-1959) was born in Kamenica, Croatia. In 1922, he immigrated to the United States and in 1927 received his Ph. D. from the University of Chicago. Preveden taught linguistics and classics at DePaul University (1926-1933) and Duquesne University (1938-1941). From 1942 to 1959, he served as a translator for various government agencies, including the Department of Defense. Preveden's major work was his History of the Croatian People.
